Shubman Gill has been the rising star for India and will be captaining the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time. He plays for the franchise named Gujarat Titans (GT) and their skipper Hardik Pandya has moved to Mumbai Indians (MI) in an all-cash deal. The former, who won the Orange Cap earlier this year, will succeed Hardik, who has led GT for the past two seasons.
At the very young age of 25, the right-hander has already established himself in all three formats of the game for India. The Titans have already made it to two IPL finals since its introduction in 2022. They won the 2022 title and made it to the final again in 2023, losing a thriller to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 2018 U19 World Cup winner scored 890 runs at an average of 59.33 from 17 matches.
Kane Williamson was another option, but the franchise felt better to make an Indian to represent them as he could be the future face of Indian cricket and a captain in the making. With him as a skipper, it will be a lot easier to change the overseas players.
Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years: Vikram Solanki
Vikram Solanki, Director of Cricket, Gujarat Titans, said, "Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing over the last two years at the highest level of the game. We’ve seen him mature not only as a batter but also as a leader in cricket. His contribution on the field has helped Gujarat Titans emerge as a formidable force, guiding the team through a successful campaign in 2022 and a strong run in 2023. His maturity and skill is evident in his on-field performance and we are extremely excited to embark on a new journey with a young leader like Shubman at the helm."
Gill after getting the captaincy said, "I am delighted and proud to assume the Captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket."

Kane Williamson should have been the captain.

Gill is very young and a great player, he needs to be nurtured and not burdened by captaincy.
Another terrible decision by the upper management of Gujrat Titans.
Excited for new chapter. Gill pic.twitter.com/xrM2KHftFZ
