Hardik Pandya has been rumoured to join Mumbai Indians (MI) from Gujarat Titans (GT). But on the last day of the players' retention, it was confirmed that Pandya had been retained by the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) champions. According to speculations, the GT captain was planning to return to the squad that gave him his first chance in the competition in 2015.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, MI was prepared to pay Rs 15 crores, in addition to an undisclosed transfer fee to gain his services. In an unexpected decision, GT has now officially retained Pandya. The all-rounder captained the Titans to victory in their first season in 2022, and a year later, he led them to the finals, where they lost to CSK. He has played 123 matches in which he has scalped 53 wickets and scored 2309 runs at a strike rate of 139.89.
Hardik was part of the Indian squad in the ODI World Cup 2023. He played four matches for them before injuring his ankle and getting ruled out of the tournament. It has also been confirmed that Hardik will captain Gujarat in the forthcoming season. If he had joined the Mumbai team, he would have had to play under Rohit Sharma's leadership. IPL's 'trade window' is still open. The IPL 2024 auction will take place in Dubai on December 19-the first time the event has moved out of India.
