The entire Mumbai Indians captaincy controversy involving Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya is not dying down. It has been more than 24-hours since the news broke and the social media popularity of Mumbai Indians has taken a nose dive.

Fans have shown their anger by burning the Mumbai Indians jerseys and caps. The apparent slight shown to the 36-year-old hasn’t gone down well with the netizens. There has been a constant negative campaign against the team management.

Noted commentator Harsha Bhogle has also spoken about the entire controversy. The soft-spoken voice of cricket took to Twitter to have his say and paid rich compliments to the now-former MI skipper.

Social Media users and Mumbai Indians fans showed their frustration just mere hours after the captaincy change controversy. The five-time winners had 13.2 Million followers on Instagram before the announcement was made.

Once the news came out the number has drastically fallen to 12.6 Million and is constantly plunging by the hour. The men in blue and gold had nearly 9 million followers on Twitter and even there the number has come down to 8.2 million.

For the first time has Indian cricket seen such a reaction and fan movement take place. Many fans took to social media platforms to deride the franchise with their angry statements. While a few fans went as far as starting various hashtag campaigns in support of Rohit Sharma.

Harsha Bhogle took to Twitter and wrote “That Hardik Pandya would be captain of @mipaltan was an open secret. Rohit Sharma can lay claim to being, with MS Dhoni, the finest leader in the IPL. It may not be a bad idea to let him relax and have fun because the IPL can take a lot out of you and he will have led India in five test matches a while before that"

The veteran commentator also wrote “While this is a move keeping in mind the next few years, it will be a huge challenge for Hardik given the number of stars in the side and the ambition of the franchise. It makes #Mumbai Indians the team to watch this year.”

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians fans are still waiting for Rohit Sharma to comment. Rohit and his wife were seen at a function yesterday with forlorn faces which made the social media universe angrier.
