Indian batters disappointed their fans with a poor batting performance against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final at the Oval due to which, the Kangaroos clinched a convincing victory by 209 runs and became the best Test team of the world on Sunday, June 11. No other batter except Ajinkya Rahane could do anything special for the team in a must-win major contest.

Meanwhile, former legendary England captain Nasser Hussain was also disappointed with India’s batting performance and advised the Indian team to learn from Pakistan captain Babar Azam and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson how to play against the pacers who can move the ball both ways.

“Really disappointed with the Indian batters, their fans might come after me for saying this but I think the Indian top order needs to look at Babar and Kane on how to play the pacers when the ball is moving around. Both of them do it so late,” Hussain was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

Indian batters continue to disappoint in the major events

Indian fans have a lot of expectations from experienced batters like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Cheteshwar Pujara. But none of them live up to the expectations and failed miserably. However, Kohli tried really well in the 2nd innings while chasing the target of 444 runs but couldn’t continue to bat with patience and departed on the score of 49 runs.

Rohit got a great start in both innings but was unable to convert them into a big score. On the other hand, Pujara, who has been playing in County cricket for a while, also failed and broke millions of fans’ hearts with a poor performance. Indian young opener Shubman Gill was in red-hot form before the WTC final as he has already smashed 5 international centuries this year.

He was also the Orange cap winner in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as he scored 890 runs in just 17 matches but that form didn’t work at the Oval as he was able to score only 13 and 18 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively. It won’t be wrong to say that the biggest reason behind India’s defeat in the WTC final is the failure of the Indian batting lineup.
