India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is making his comeback in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. He last played for the Men In Blue last September. Since July last year, Bumrah struggled with a back injury. The right-arm bowler missed the third ODI against England and the Men's Asia Cup 2022. During the T20I series against Australia, the Mumbai Indians player made his comeback.
However, after only playing one game, his injury re-aggravated which ruled him out of the T20 World Cup 2022. India lost the semis of the tournament. In January this year, he was set to make his comeback to the team. However, the team management decided not to take risks on the advice of the National Cricket Academy. Meanwhile, three-time World Cup winner for Australia, Glenn McGrath has advised Bumrah to drop one format to prolong his career
Jasprit Bumrah's bowling action put a lot of stress on his body: Glenn McGrath
McGrath added that Bumrahs bowling action is unique and it puts a lot of stress on his body. The former further added that playing all formats plus IPL makes it harder for Bumrah to play all formats
"Bumrah is exceptional, and he is unique. The way he bowls, his run-up, and his delivery stride are very unique. But his bowling action and the way he goes about it does put a lot of stress on his body, so he needs to stay strong. If he does that, he can play quite a few years for India," Glenn McGrath told Sportstar.
"The current international schedule, the IPL and other T20 tournaments makes it harder for fast bowlers like Bumrah to play in all three formats but some bowlers can do it," McGrath said.
Notably, Bumrah has been appointed as the captain for the series against Ireland.

He will never drop a format. That's where workload management comes into play in modern day cricket

Playing all three formats for a bowler with a distinctive action is difficult. As he won't receive any rest, he'll struggle more and sustain more injuries.
