In the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), only three seasons (2015, 2018, and 2020) have seen bowlers not taking a hat-trick. Apart from these seasons, bowlers in every season have taken a hat-trick. There are some bowlers who have taken more than one hat trick. In these years, only a few hat tricks have ended up on the losing side.
Most hat tricks have either helped the team win the games one-sided or helped to turn the game in their favor. In the first season, three different players took a hat trick. The next year, two Indian legends combined for three hat-tricks in a season played in South Africa. When the league returned to India in 2010, the next three seasons saw one hat trick each.
The 2013 and 2014 seasons saw two hat tricks each in both seasons. After a gap of two years, the 2016 season saw a hat trick while the 2017 season saw three other bowlers taking a hat trick. Two years later, two different bowlers took a hat trick. From 2021 to 2023, three players have taken a hat trick each.
