Match 5 of the all-exciting Lanka Premier League 2022 was between Colombo Stars and Dambulla Aura at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota. The Stars recorded their first win of the tournament after they suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Kandy Falcons in their previous fixture and it had a big effect on their net run rate.
On the other hand, Dambulla Aura lost their first match too by 9 wickets. Dambulla were on the fourth position in the points table and Colombo were on 5th position respectively. After this win, the Stars will go up in the table.
After winning the toss, Colombo captain Angelo Mathews elected to bat first. Opener Niroshan Dickwella started the innings very well as he scored 62 runs off 41 balls including 8 fours and 2 sixes. However, other batters couldn’t keep the wickets from another end. With the help of Ravi Bopara and Dinesh Chandimal's 54-run stand for the fourth wicket, Stars achieved a total of 165 for 9 wickets.
Dambulla Aura will look to come back in the next match
Colombo Stars hold their nerve to emerge victorious. The Stars were also very judicious with the usage of their bowling resources, using as many as eight bowlers and capitalizing on favorable match-ups. They also made the most of the ground dimensions and ensured that Dambulla were, more often than not, hitting into the wind. This victory, apart from giving them two points, will give them the confidence that they can hold their own this season and mount a sustained title challenge.
Plenty to ponder for Dambulla, though, who managed to starve their skipper of the strike. Shanaka, despite being at the crease for a chunk of the innings, only faced 20 balls, and that ultimately cost them the game. Prior to that, they did well to recover with the ball and restrict the Stars to 165, which on this surface, looked pretty gettable. Having said that, they would be ruing how they did not seize the crucial moments, and they would want to rectify that as soon as possible moving forward.

Raza was useless with the bat in both the games. And the batsmen didnt do the strike rotation well. Shanaka was on the pitch for that long but only got to face 21 balls. That too because he kinda forcefully kept the strike to himself w/o getting singles#DAvsCS #LPLT20
