The crucial Test Championship final could be the ideal setting for Ishan Kishan to demonstrate his talent and solidify his position as Team India's go-to wicketkeeper-batter. Ishan Kishan was added to Team India's Test team for the prestigious Test Championship final against Australia, slated to be played between June 7 and 11, thanks to KL Rahul's injury.
Uttam Majumdar, Ishan's childhood coach, expressed his joy at the star batter's selection to the Indian team. Majumdar has boldly suggested that Kishan may represent India in the next Test Championship final in the same capacity as former Australian ace wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist.
'Like Rishabh Pant, he can also bat fearlessly at no.6' – Uttam Majumdar
Majumdar, who has taught Kishan the fundamentals of cricket since the latter was a little child, stated in an interview with Sports Tak, "See, when KL Rahul got hurt and had to be ruled out, I had the belief that Ishan Kishan would get a chance. Now that he has been selected in India's Test squad for the WTC final, I would like him to get a chance in the playing XI as he always aspired to play Test cricket for Team India. If that happens on a big stage like the Test Championship final, it will be a big deal."
"Just like Rishabh Pant, Kishan can also bat fearlessly at no.6 for Team India. Batting at no.5 and no.6 is quite challenging and is considered as important batting order. The teams get the second new ball at this batting order, and according to me, Kishan is fully prepared to handle this. What Adam Gilchrist did for Australia by coming and playing explosive knocks down the order in Test, Kishan will do the same for India. There is a similarity between Gilchrist and Kishan as far as batting style is concerned. If Kishan gets a chance, it will be a big moment for all of us," Majumdar further added.
