On 6 September 2023, the first game of the ongoing Asia Cup’s ‘Super 4’ stage took place at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Both teams were looking for a win while Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first. For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Muraz and Mohammad Naim came out to open. 

But, the centurion of the last match, Miraz went for a golden duck and after that, the Bangla Tigers suffered a  batting collapse. They lost four wickets for 47 runs in 9.1 overs. Then, Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahman stitched a 100-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Shakib got out on 53 runs off 57 balls, including seven fours.

Mushfiqur also played a vital knock as he scored 64 runs off 87 balls, including five fours. Apart from them, other batters failed miserably and they got bundled out for just 193 runs in 38.4 overs. For Pakistan, Haris Rauf showed his class with his sheer pace as he picked up four wickets for 19 runs in six overs. Naseem Shah grabbed three wickets for 34 runs in 5.4 overs. Along with them, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Faheem Ashraf, and Iftikhar Ahmed took one wicket each.

In reply, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq came out to open but it was just a 35-run partnership for the first wicket in 9.1 overs. Zaman got out on 20 runs off 31 balls. Then, the number one-ranked batter in ODIs came to bat but he also got out for just 17 runs off 22 balls, including one four. Then, Imam and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the innings together. Imam notched up his fifty off 61 balls. Rizwan also smashed a fifty. Imam got out after scoring 78 runs and he put up a partnership of 85 runs for the third wicket with Rizwan. In the end, Rizwan remained not out on 63* runs as Pakistan chased down the target with seven wickets to spare. They chased down the target in just 39.3 overs.
