India will host the 2023 World Cup from October 5 to November 3. While the tournament will be contested in India for the fourth time, this will be the first time the nation will serve as the sole host. In the past, Bangladesh, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka co-hosted the World Cup with India.
However, there have been some issues leading up to the event, most of which have to do with Pakistan's participation. After India declined to play matches there during the impending 2023 Asia Cup due to security concerns, it was assumed that Pakistan would also decline to visit the country.
The most recent development appears to be Pakistan's request for two of the tournament's matches to be played at other locations. Although the official schedule has not yet been released, it is commonly known that Pakistan and India will play in Ahmedabad. In addition, they have matches against Australia in Bengaluru and Afghanistan in Chennai.
Pakistan will reportedly start their World Cup 2023 campaign on October 6
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is prepared to request a switch of the two games, according to Cricket Pakistan. According to the article, some officials think India planned matches at locations where the Pakistani squad may face difficulties with the surface, practice facilities, and travel arrangements.
The World Cup schedule has not yet been made public by the Apex Cricket Council. However, on October 15, India and Pakistan are scheduled to square off at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, according to ESPNCricinfo. On October 5, England and New Zealand will square off in the opening game of the competition in a thrilling rematch of the 2019 World Cup final. On October 8, India will begin its campaign against Australia in Chennai.
At the same time, the first two qualifying matches for Pakistan will take place on October 6 and October 12 in Hyderabad, according to the suggested schedule. Before the match against Australia in Bengaluru on October 20.
The games between Pakistan and Afghanistan and South Africa are slated to take place in Chennai on October 23 and October 27, respectively. Before their last group encounter against England in Kolkata on November 12, they will play Bangladesh in Kolkata on October 31 and New Zealand in Bengaluru on November 5.
