In the third Super Four game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, India and Pakistan locked horns in at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. In this reverse fixture, Pakistan was coming off a big win against Bangladesh before all the Super Four sides moved to Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, in this game, the Green Brigade, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Unlike the 66/4 scorecard in the previous game, they had a great start. Openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put together 121 runs for the first wicket. The former started slowly but managed to hit four sixes and six fours on his way to 56 runs. On the other hand, Gill scored 58 including 10 fours. However, they lost their wickets back-to-back and were reduced to 126/2.

After these wickets, KL Rahul, who was playing in place of injured Shreyas Iyer, and former India skipper Virat Kohli were playing slowly. After 24.1 overs, the game was stopped due to rain and was shifted to the reserve day.

India dominated the reserve day despite rain interruptions

On the second day, the game started after a delay as it was raining for a few hours. After around 100 minutes of the scheduled start, the game resumed without overs but was cut. From 143/2 in 24.1 overs, the Blues weren't trouble much after the first few overs. Even the commentators were heard asking for slips that didn't happen. In the end, both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul ended up with an unbeaten 233 runs for the third wicket.

Both players ended up getting hundreds and helped the team reach 356/2 at the end of the innings. In reply, the two-time winners had a poor start and were never in the game. They lost three wickets with the new ball and Fakhar Zaman also played a Test-like innings. With Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf being injured, they were never going to bat. In the end, Pakistan was bowled out for 128 with Kuldeep Yadav taking his maiden five-for against Pakistan. The Babar Azam-led side lost the game by 228 runs.
