Sri Lanka mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been one of the leading spinners for the Lankan Lions. He has been ruled out of the final match of the Asia Cup 2023, against India. The injury concerns haunt the defending champions as they prepare to win their seventh title.

They already lost some of their important players before the Asia Cup. Now they lost Theekshana who picked a hamstring injury during a must-win Super Four game against Pakistan while he tried to take a diving catch.

Maheesh Theekshana got hurt while he was fielding in the Sri Lanka-Pakistan game: Sri Lanka Cricket

After the win against Pakistan Sri Lanka Cricket made an official press release and stated, "Maheesh Theekshana got hurt while he was fielding in the Sri Lanka-Pakistan game. To completely examine the player’s condition, a scan will be performed tomorrow." Sri Lanka faced issues ahead of the tournament after the injuries to Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, etc.

The CSK player in the IPL could be the latest name to feature in the injury list after he strained his right hamstring. He has been the highest wicket-taker for his side in the ODIs this year, boasting an impressive tally of 31 wickets in just 15 matches at an average of 17.45. The spinner was on fire. He conceded just 14 runs in his first five overs, but the disaster struck in the later stages of the game against Pakistan, where he was seen hobbling off the field with support.

Theekshana will unquestionably be a crucial component of Sri Lanka’s team at the Men’s ODI World Cup 2023. Teams must submit their complete tournament squads by 28th September. As per reports, he’s got a grade two hamstring tear and is immediately replaced by Sahan Arachchige in the squad.

Sri Lanka made it to the final for the 11th time in the Asia Cup and this is their second final in a row. The defending champions will like to match India's seven championships.
