Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a show-cause notice to those players who are playing in Minor League Cricket but failed to obtain permission. Apparently, since the COVID-19 pandemic, Pakistani players, who are overlooked by the national side have been playing in this tournament. Any player who wants to play in this tournament has two conditions, either they give up playing international cricket or domestic cricket or play as guests.

For the unversed, some former Indian and Pakistan domestic players quit their respective domestic circuits. Some of the players cited pay issues during the pandemic as domestic cricket wasn't held in 2020. On the other hand, some players wanted to explore more opportunities at the highest level. Meanwhile, talking about the players under question, they have played for the Green Brigade in at least one format of the game.

Those players are -  Sohaib Maqsood, Arshad Iqbal, Hussain Talat, Ali Shafiq, Imad Butt, Usman Shanwari, Umaid Asif, Zeeshan Ashraf, Saif Badar, Mukhtar Ahmed, and Nauman Anwar. They are said to have failed to obtain No-Objection Certificate (NOC).

Recently, former Test specialist, Fawad Alam decided to give up on his national side and its domestic cricket. He is now looking forward to playing in the Minor Cricket League. Apart from him, the likes of Hassan Khan, Sami Aslam, Hammad Azam, Salman Arshad, Mussadiq Ahmed, Imran Khan Junior, and Ali Nasir started the trend of leaving Pakistan cricket for greener pastures.

These are players who were overlooked as far as the national side is concerned. Notably, they have obtained permission and won't get into the show-cause notice troubles.

Cricket in the USA have provided another lease of life for overlooked players

"Besides the minor league, other cricket matches and tournaments are held year round especially at long weekends and players remain busy with playing and coaching. And with the launch of the USA Major League USA is now a feasible destination for some Pakistani players who are overlooked at home," the source said.
