The Rajasthan-based franchise started their Indian T20 League 2023 campaign with a promising victory over Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday, April 2. The Sanju Samson-led side dominated the Hyderabad-based franchise in both bowling and batting departments as they won the match by 72 runs.

Talking about the match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who was leading the side in absence of Aiden Markram, opted to bowl first after winning the toss. But their decision didn't turn out in their favour as Rajasthan's openers, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, gave a flying start to the team as both made full use of the powerplay, smashing more than 80 runs in it.

Both batters tore into Hyderabad's attack as Buttler smashed a 20-ball fifty but just when it looked like he would go on to break massive records, he was bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi. Jaiswal slowed down after that and Samson who came at no.3, took over the aggressor's role. Jaiswal got out after his fifty as Hyderabad fought back with wickets but Samson was there and he kept the innings going and reached his fifty, in the process. With the help of Shimron Hetmyer's short cameo, Hyderabad achieved a monumental total of 203 runs.

Brilliant all-round performance by Rajasthan

Chasing the target, Hyderabad had a horrible start as they lost their first two wickets without even scoring a single run. Trent Boult came to bowl the first over and gave a brilliant start to Rajasthan, taking two wickets in the very first over of the second innings.

Hyderabad's latest addition, Harry Brook had a forgettable Indian T20 League debut as well as the spinners began their stranglehold. Mayank Agarwal showed some promise but perished against Yuzvendra Chahal. The rest of the middle order failed to contribute much.

Chahal bowled brilliantly as he got a four-fer, while Ravichandran Ashwin also bowled a pretty economical spell. Their debutant, Jason Holder had a great game with the bowl and in the field as well. However, Hyderabad will surely make a comeback in their next game.
