The Asian Games 2023 are already underway, with India having already won gold in various categories, including women's cricket. The India women's cricket team won the final of the Asian Games against Sri Lanka. On Wednesday, the fourth day of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in China, Nepal created history.
They became the first team to score 300+ runs in T20I cricket against Mongolia. In this game, there were two other records broken as well. Nepal’s young sensation, Dipendra Singh Airee broke the long-held record of fastest fifty of Yuvraj Singh of 12 balls, as the batter smashed a fifty in just 9 balls. He dispatched the Mongolian bowlers all around the park, hitting 8 sixes to reach this milestone.
On the other hand, Kushal Malla has also scored the fastest-ever T20I century as he just took 34 balls to reach the 100 runs mark. He broke the record of Rohit Sharma and David Miller. He remained unbeaten with a score of 137 runs off 50 balls. Malla had an amazing strike rate of 274.
Kushal Malla and Dipendra Airee shatter records
After being invited to bat first. Nepal openers were off to a flyer before they lost their opener Aasif Sheikh for just 16 runs. Their second wicket fell for 66 runs. Kushal Malla and skipper Rohit Paudel added a 193-run partnership for the Asian team. The former went on to break the fastest century record of Rohit Sharma and David Miller. Malla scored his hundred in just 34 balls, he was unbeaten at 137 runs off 50 balls, hitting the ball for 12 sixes and 8 boundaries. The skipper scored 61 runs off 27 balls at a strike rate of 225.92.
Dipendra Singh Airee the all-rounder smashed a brilliant half-century in just 9 balls. The 24-year-old all-rounder has been a rising star in Nepali cricket, and this record-breaking performance on the world stage will give him some confidence and show his talent and abilities in T20 cricket.
With the courtesy of their innings, Nepal was able to post the highest total in T20I cricket. They became the first team to score 300 in T20I cricket. In the end, they scored 314/3 in their 20 overs. In response, the Mongolian batters were bundled out for 41 runs.
