Ravi Shastri, the former Indian team player and head coach, recently shared his opinions on Virat Kohli's captaincy and the way the stylish batter is feeling right now. The topic of Arshdeep Singh, the young left-armer with the ability to succeed in all forms of the game, was also discussed. In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Shastri discussed Virat Kohli's current mental state.

Shastri spoke about the time when Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the fifth and final Test against England and Jasprit Bumrah was handed over the captaincy reins instead of the former Team India skipper Virat Kohli. He said, “If I was still there - I'm sure Rahul might have done the same thing, I have not spoken to him - I would've recommended to the board that it's only fair he leads because he was captain of the team that was leading 2-1 in the series and probably could have got the best ."

Ravi Shastri then spoke about Virat Kohli’s mental state earlier and now he is cool and relaxed during the current season of the Indian Premier League and that is showing in the kinds of innings he is playing for the RCB. He said, “He's in a very good space, enjoying his cricket," Shastri said. "That's the feeling I got as opposed to the last year when we were sitting and discussing does he need a break, does he not need a break. He seemed to have the burden of the whole world on his shoulders.

Shastri added that, “Now it's refreshing. the enthusiasm, passionate energy and enjoyment have come back, which for me was the best thing to see. Runs you might or might not get but when you see someone, and the passion, enjoyment and drive is back again, it's good."

As Faf du Plessis recovers from a rib injury that has restricted his participation to only being a batter, Kohli is currently serving as the interim captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2023. Kohli has returned to taking the lead, saying that it's "nothing I'm not used to."
