Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter for Team India, is unlikely to make a full recovery from his back ailment in time for the approaching 2023 Asia Cup. The 28-year-old underwent back surgery in April and is currently receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. As a result, he was forced to miss the IPL 2023 and the ODI series, which consisted of three matches versus Australia at home. Iyer's injury also prevented him from being included in the India team for the next West Indies tour.
For those who are unaware, Iyer first experienced lower back problems following the December trip to Bangladesh. The right-handed hitter, therefore, skipped the first Test versus Australia and the ODI series versus New Zealand. After making a recovery in the fourth Test, his agony returned, and he was unable to bat.
Player to watch out for in Shreyas Iyer's absence
Suryakumar Yadav will be the focus of the three one-day international matches leading up to the 2023 World Cup because Shreyas Iyer will not be participating in the forthcoming West Indies tour. In 23 ODIs, the 32-year-old has scored 433 runs with an average of 24.06, with two half-centuries, but has yet to demonstrate his prowess in the 50-over format.
In a recent three-match ODI series against Australia that India lost 2-1, Yadav previously registered three straight golden ducks. In order to prepare for the 2023 World Cup and Asia Cup, he will now try to get back into shape. He had an excellent IPL where he scored his maiden century in the league as well as ended up being the top scorer of the Mumbai Indians.
Ajinkya Rahane, who took Shreyas Iyer's spot in the Test team, seized the chance, making 89 as well as 46 during the World Test Championship (WTC) championship match. However, India lost the summit match by a score of 209 runs. Rahane has been promoted to vice-captain for the upcoming two-Test series versus the West Indies, which begins on July 12 at 7.30 p.m. IST at Windsor Park in Dominica.

Iyer & KL out for Asia Cup, so make me think will they be selected to the World Cup squad ? or the players replacing them be selected bcoz they coming straight to play the WC, after injury doesn't guarantee good performance

Another good news bolne walo bhadwo ye kl Rahul ki tarah nahi hai mana ki pace aur short ball pe struggle karta hai magar ye atleast try to karta hai aur 25-30 run guarantee deta hai

Surya is coming to save india.

Now Ishan Rutu Surya and Samson are in contention for 4 and 5 since Rahul Pant and Iyer unavailable. I prefer Samson at 4 and Surya at 5 at the moment.

If he's not gonna recover till Asia cup plzz don't take him in WC on the basis of old goodwill our players need match practice for WC so we should give a good long run To sanju
— Sai Aditya (@SaiAdit44090892) June 25, 2023
If a player does not recover on time for Asia cup then they should NOT be in the WC squad. Those who have been playing for so long in his absence should get the chance.

Feels like if Iyer and KL can't recover by Asia Cup then Sky and Samson are their natural replacement
— Abhisek@2816 (@AbhisekBChoudh2) June 25, 2023
I don't think both kl and Iyer will in wc squad,if they aren't fit for atleast Asia Cup
— Rohit (@rohitsk4514) June 25, 2023
Chance for sanju, sky, ishan to play in the wc
Suryakumar is out of form in ODI cricket. He has not shown his glamour in ODI format. That three ducks in 3 ODI match series against Australia would haunt him. Unavailability of Shreyas is a dent to ICT. He is a consistent performer. India would want him in World Cup
