Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter for Team India, is unlikely to make a full recovery from his back ailment in time for the approaching 2023 Asia Cup. The 28-year-old underwent back surgery in April and is currently receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. As a result, he was forced to miss the IPL 2023 and the ODI series, which consisted of three matches versus Australia at home. Iyer's injury also prevented him from being included in the India team for the next West Indies tour.

For those who are unaware, Iyer first experienced lower back problems following the December trip to Bangladesh. The right-handed hitter, therefore, skipped the first Test versus Australia and the ODI series versus New Zealand. After making a recovery in the fourth Test, his agony returned, and he was unable to bat.

Player to watch out for in Shreyas Iyer's absence

Suryakumar Yadav will be the focus of the three one-day international matches leading up to the 2023 World Cup because Shreyas Iyer will not be participating in the forthcoming West Indies tour. In 23 ODIs, the 32-year-old has scored 433 runs with an average of 24.06, with two half-centuries, but has yet to demonstrate his prowess in the 50-over format. 

In a recent three-match ODI series against Australia that India lost 2-1, Yadav previously registered three straight golden ducks. In order to prepare for the 2023 World Cup and Asia Cup, he will now try to get back into shape. He had an excellent IPL where he scored his maiden century in the league as well as ended up being the top scorer of the Mumbai Indians.

Suryakumar is out of form in ODI cricket. He has not shown his glamour in ODI format. That three ducks in 3 ODI match series against Australia would haunt him. Unavailability of Shreyas is a dent to ICT. He is a consistent performer. India would want him in World Cup
