Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal is currently ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023 squad. He sustained a back injury and is doubtful for the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, last month, Iqbal announced his retirement from the ODI format, having retired from T20I cricket earlier. However, a day later, the left-hander met the Bangladesh PM and after a long chat with her and BCB president Jalal Yunus, Iqbal decided to reverse his decision.

Similarly, in an interview with ESPNcricinfo, he was facing the famous '25 question' from the website's journalist. The opening batter, in the second question, was asked what he would like to add to bring comfort in the dressing room. In reply, the 34-year-old said 'music'. However, in the 21st question, the former Pune Warriors player was asked which kind of music he likes to listen to before going to bat. In reply, the former Nottinghamshire player said 'Not a big fan of music'.

Tamim Iqbal has been replaced by Shakib Al Hasan as captain

Meanwhile, Hasan has been appointed as the captain of the Bangladesh Tigers for the Asia Cup 2023.

“Shakib Al Hasan is the captain for the Asia Cup, New Zealand series and World Cup,” he said. “We will speak more to him when he returns to Bangladesh . We have to know his long-term plan. I spoke to him on the phone yesterday. But it is better if we talk to him in person since he is busy with a franchise league currently. We will also talk about which format he will keep leading, whether it is all three formats or one or two of them.

“There was never any confusion. I told you before. He is the obvious choice. Who else can lead? But we had to talk to him before appointing him. Nobody should think anything else. Shakib is the captain. He was always the main choice.”
