India's veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is not surprised by Ben Stoke's return for ODI World Cup 2023. Ashwin felt it was imminent, considering Stokes's contributions to England's victorious campaign during the ODI World Cup in 2019.

Stokes was named the Player of the Match in the final on both occasions, ODI and T20I when England won a World Cup over the past few years. He retired from the 50-over format in 2022, stating workload issues to concentrate and prolong his career in the other two formats.

So, Jos Butler’s dialogue with Ben Stokes worked like magic: Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin reacted to the exciting development through a post on his official Twitter handle. He wrote, "So, Jos Butler’s dialogue with Ben Stokes worked like magic. #2023WC #stokes. No way he was going to miss the marquee event of the year."

But R Ashwin declared on his YouTube channel that he will make every effort to make Stokes come out of retirement for the ODI World Cup 2023. He said, "They will try their best to convince Ben Stokes to come out of retirement and play the ODI World Cup and it seems that responsibility has been given to Jos Buttler. It seems Buttler’s duty is to watch Ben Stokes, according to coach Matthew Mott. So Buttler is keeping an eye on Ben Stokes. Now it’s Buttler’s job to make Stokes available for the World Cup. And Buttler is not a man of many words. He hardly speaks. So my guess is that he will go to Ben Stokes and say, ‘Dude please join us. It will be really nice if you come out of retirement.’ Buttler won’t be outspoken. He will try his best."

Former England captain Michael Atherton believes Ben Stokes' retirement withdrawal from 50-over cricket was reckoned by the appeal of big tournaments such as the ODI World Cup. He went on to say that his participation was wonderful news for English cricket since it would increase their chances of defending their crown.
