Mahika Gaur the Dubai-raised 17-year-old left-arm seamer made her international debut for UAE, at the age of 12-year. But on Thursday after almost five years, she made her international debut for England's women's team. She became another cricketer to be a double-international player after being called up for England's white-ball series at home against Sri Lanka.

She had an impressive debut and took her first senior wicket for England. It was a big wicket, of Sri Lanka’s best player Chamari Athapaththu. Young Mahika is a big fan of the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Gaur was playing her 20th T20 international, but her first for England. Coincidentally, the best figure in her career is with the UAE.

One of the players I looked up to was Dhoni: Mahika Gaur

Mahika said MS Dhoni is one of her inspirations from her childhood. She stated, "One of the players I looked up to was Dhoni." "He is the CSK captain, so I am a big CSK fan. We would watch all his finishes. My first ever cricket jersey was a picture of Dhoni and on the back it said 'Mahi 7' because he's Mahi and I am Mahi as well."

The 17-year-old took 11 wickets for UAE in the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers - the most among fast bowlers and second overall, and her economy rate of 1.36 was the best for any bowler with at least four overs in the tournament.

She recently impressed in the recently concluded 'The Hundred' while playing for Manchester Originals in Hundred Women. England gave opportunities to a number of young players. England captain Heather Knight said, "Mahika was brilliant on her debut." "She had to move to death bowling after the rain and she executed her plan perfectly. At that height she gets real late swing which is quite a weapon."

England’s win was set up by another teenager of huge promise in 19-year-old Alice Capsey who smashed 51 off 27 balls as her side took advantage of a wayward Sri Lanka attack.
