He surpassed Anil Kumble, who achieved the feat in 106 matches. Overall, he is the fourth fastest spinner to achieve the feat behind Saqlain Mushtaq, Rashid Khan, and Ajantha Mendis. His four wickets helped India to defend a low score of 214 runs.

After dismissing Pathirana, SL's final batter, Kuldeep completed 150 wickets in ODI cricket. He entered the 150-wicket club in his 88th match. Previously against Pakistan, he became just the third Indian spinner with a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in ODI cricket. Arshad Ayub (5/21 in 1988) and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar (5/50 in 2005) are the only other Indian spinners with this feat.

Team India skipper, Rohit Sharma praised Kuldeep and said, "For the past year or so bowling really really well. He has done a lot of hard work on his rhythm. He went back to the drawing board and worked on it. The ball is coming out nicely and you can see the results in the last 10 ODIs."

In 88 ODIs, the left-arm wrist-spinner has an economy rate of 5.11. His tally includes two five-wicket hauls as well. The Indian spinner now has 18 wickets from 10 ODIs against Sri Lanka at an incredible average of 21.33. He owns 14 wickets in Sri Lanka.

After defeating the co-hosts, the Men in Blue remain at the top of the Super4 points table as well after two wins in two matches. They have four points from two games. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now play against Bangladesh on Friday. Shakib al Hasan's side is already eliminated from the race to the final as they lost both their matches of the Super 4 round and it also means that the match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan has become the semifinal of this continental event.
