In the 2nd Test of India's West Indies tour, visitors continued their dominance in the series. Batting first, India scored 288/4 on Day 1. Skipper Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli smashed brilliant half-centuries. Jaiswal, in his innings, scored 57 runs off 74 balls with the help of nine fours and a six.

Meanwhile, skipper Rohit missed out on a well-deserved century. He scored 80 runs off 143 balls with the help of nine fours and two sixes. Rohit, along with Jaiswal, added 139 runs for the first wicket. Both registered the third-highest opening partnership in Port of Spain by Visitors. Rohit also became the fifth-highest run scorer in international cricket for India. He left MS Dhoni behind on the list.

However, after their departure, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane failed to impress with the bat. Both were dismissed by Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel. This is the second consecutive failure for both of them, as they failed to score in the first Test too. Gill, in his innings, scored 10 runs off 12 balls, while Rahane scored 8 runs off 36 balls.

Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja took charge of the Indian batting

In the second session of Day 1, the West Indies dominated the game by giving up just 61 runs and claiming four wickets. India was looking a little shattered before Kohli's masterclass. Kohli, in his innings, scored an unbeaten 87 runs off 161 balls with the help of eight fours. He, along with Ravindra Jadeja, added 106 runs for the fifth wicket. Jadeja, in his innings, scored an unbeaten 36 runs off 84 deliveries with the help of four fours.

Notably, this is Kohli's 500th international match, and he became the first player to score five in his 500th match. After Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni Kohli became the fourth players to cross the landmark foot. Meanwhile, this is also the 100th Test between India and the West Indies, as their rivalry dates back to 1948.
