The former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is enjoying his holidays after he was ruled out of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 due to an elbow injury. He is currently in Doha and he was surprised with decorative plating that was written with the franchise's catchphrase - 'Ee Sala Cup Namde.'
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain posted it on his Instagram handle and on his Twitter account on Friday tagging the RCB's official Instagram account. It is common for the hotel staff and managers to make some unique surprises for the players in the social media era. The 39-year-old batter has been part of the RCB setup for two years as their captain and has been an instant hit with the ardent fan base. He has led the team from the front and scored 1198 runs for RCB in the last two seasons. He has also built up an excellent on and off-the-field chemistry with the former India captain Virat Kohli.
Can Faf du Plessis be the first RCB captain to lift the IPL title?
He led RCB to a third-place finish in the 2022 season while the franchise finished sixth in the 2023 edition, missing out on the playoffs for the first time in three years. He had an exceptional campaign with the bat and held the Orange Cap for the majority of the season and was second placed to Shubman Gill. The former Chennai Super Kings batter is currently recovering following surgery. The tennis elbow issue has given him some serious trouble in recent times. He had a horrific campaign with the bat for the Texas Super Kings (TSK) in the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC).
The Bangalore-based franchise is one of the most popular franchises in the competition's history, but they are yet to win the prestigious trophy. They have made it to the finals across three editions, but have gone on to lose each time. The failure to claim the title has led to the exits of Sanjay Bangar and Mike Hesson from their roles in the coaching setup. Former Zimbabwe player and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Andy Flower has been appointed as the new head coach of the franchise ahead of the 2024 season.
