Barbados Royals (BR) beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKN) by eight wickets in the 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). They successfully chased 221 runs in just 18.1 overs. The Royals are now fourth in the table with 7 points in seven games.
On Monday, the world’s heaviest cricketer, Rahkeem Cornwall, scored his first T20 century and led the Barbados Royals to an impressive victory. They showcased a phenomenal performance in the 18th match of the current CPL season. He scored his century in just 45 balls.
Rakheem Cornwall leads BR to a historic win
SKN won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Andre Fletcher and Will Smeed put together the highest opening partnership of this year’s tournament so far, with 115 runs. Andre Fletcher scored 56 runs in 37 balls, while captain Rutherford scored 65 runs in just 27 balls with a strike rate of 240. With their courtesy, SKN would then put up a mammoth total of 220/4 after 20 overs.
In reply, they scored 67 runs in the first six overs of their chase, instead of losing the wicket of Kyle Mayers, who contributed 22 runs off 13 balls with 5 fours. Cornwall built a crucial partnership with Laurie Evans, adding more than 120 runs to their team’s total. Evans scored 24 runs off 14 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes.
The 30-year-old batter continued to show his dominant display and completed his century with 12 sixes and 4 fours, he then retired hurt after scoring a remarkable 102 runs off just 48 balls. His carnage saw the Royals pull off the third-highest run chase in CPL history.
After the match, Cornwall said the pitch was “really good” and dedicated his knock to his sons. "Today is my son’s birthday. I dedicate my hundred to my two sons; they back me from day one. I always back myself to give the team a good start.
