Star England allrounder Moeen Ali completed 3000 Test runs during the fourth Test of the Ashes in 2023. While batting at number three, Ali scored an unbeaten 31 runs off 44 balls with the help of five fours till lunch. He, along with Zak Crawley, added 52 runs for the second wicket and helped the hosts tighten their grip on the game.

It's worth noting that Ali became the 16th player in the world to complete 3000+ Test runs after taking 200+ Test wickets. He reached the milestone in style by hitting two back-to-back fours. Notably, Ali made a comeback after the ECB asked him to come out of retirement for the ongoing Ashes 2023. He has been phenomenal in the three matches he has played, taking wickets and scoring crucial runs.

Meanwhile, opener Zak Crawley is also batting well in the middle. He has scored an unbeaten 26 runs off 46 balls with the help of three fours. Notably, Australia got an early breakthrough as Mitchell Starc dismissed Ben Duckett on the cheap. Duckett scored one run off six balls before getting trapped by Starc. Till lunch on Day 2, England has scored 61/1 in 16 overs as they trail the visitors by 256 runs in the first inning.

Australian batters failed against Chris Woakes

Earlier in the game, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bowl first. His decision went well with the team, as Chris Woakes created a hole in the visitor's batting line-up. Woakes took five wickets, including those of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, and Travis Head. His amazing performance helped England restrict Australia to a decent total.

Notably, for Australia, Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschange scored half-centuries but failed to convert them into big knocks. Both scored 51 runs off 64 and 115 balls, respectively. Apart from them, former Australia skipper Steve Smith and Travis Head also got off to a comfortable start but failed to convert it into a big knock. Mitchell Starc also got some runs, which helped Australia post 317/10 in the first inning.
