On Wednesday, August 9, India's hockey team defeated Pakistan 4-0 in the final group-stage game of the Asian Champions Trophy 2023. The fans at Chennai's Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium not only watched India smash Pakistan's prospects of reaching the semi-finals, but they also bolstered the players' spirits throughout the game.

The seventh edition of the competition is being held in Chennai, and the public has turned out in force to express their support for the local team. Fans lit up the stadium before the game by singing 'Vande Mataram' inside the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium. The video has since gone viral on social media.

Harmanpreet Singh scores brace in India's 4-0 win

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored two goals and Jugrag Singh also scored as India used penalty corners to underline their dominance against Pakistan. In the fourth quarter, Akashdeep Singh's field goal helped India advance to the semi-finals.

Harmanpreet scored in the 15th minute with a well-placed drag flick from the penalty corner. Eight minutes later, he scored his second goal of the game, before Jugraj (36th minute) netted from another set piece in the third quarter. Pakistan earned their second penalty corner in the 43rd minute but squandered it.

Akashdeep capped off the game with a stunning field goal in the fourth quarter. India now leads the rankings with 13 points after four victories and one tie. It was a tough to take for Pakistan, who were eliminated from the competition on goal difference.

Pakistan needed at least a draw or a one-goal defeat to make it to the semifinals. India will play Japan in the semifinal on Friday, while Malaysia will locks horns against Korea. This was India's 9th win over Pakistan in the last 11 outings. Fans' dedication and passionate support always work and the Indian team took the field with a huge morale boost.

Harmanpreet said, "My responsibility is to block the hotline (the direct line between the attacker and the goal)." "I have to communicate with the midfielders and forwards. If their man is in a particular position, I have to tell them to mind their man."
