The Asia Cup 2023 has already started with a bang as Pakistan thrashed Nepal by 238 runs in the tournament opener. The most awaited match between India and Pakistan is set to take place on September 2. All eyes are on Team India captain Rohit Sharma, who has a fantastic record of scoring the most runs in successful chases.

The veteran opener has scored a total of 745 runs in the Asia Cup, 534 of which have come in ODIs. He is going to captain India for the second time in the continental event. The last time these two arch-rivals met in a major tournament (T20 World Cup 2022), India won a nail-biting thriller on the back of Virat Kohli's 53-ball 82*.

Can Rohit Sharma maintain his splendid record?

Team India skipper's batting record as captain in the ODI Asia Cup is sensational. The 36-year-old has achieved the feat of scoring runs at an average of 105.66. This is the highest average run scored by any captain in the history of the Asia Cup. The right-hander scored 317 runs at an average of 105.66 from 5 matches in 2018. He would like to maintain his record this year as well.

Rohit, who led India to Asia Cup glory in 2018, will try to replicate his success this time as well. If the Mumbai cricketer manages to win the title, he will be on par with former India captain MS Dhoni. The 42-year-old led India to the Asia Cup title in 2010 and 2016.

Looking further into Rohit's statistics, he scored 116 runs in 6 matches in 2008, followed by 132 runs in 4 matches in 2010. Whereas in the year 2012, Rohit had scored only 73 runs in 3 matches. Apart from this, in the year 2014, Rohit had scored 108 runs in 4 matches. Looking at this record, we can expect big runs from his bat this year as well.

Rohit had earlier stated that he was cautious about being aggressive to add another dimension to his batting and the Indian skipper was happy with the results even if he didn't score those daddy centuries. With the ODI World Cup coming up later this year, fans would love to see some runs from their favourite.
