Bangalore has included Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh in their team by giving a hefty amount of 1.5 crores in the auction for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League on Monday, February 13 at the Jio World Conventional Center in Mumbai. Renuka's base price was Rs.50 lakhs and there was a tussle between Delhi and Bangalore to buy her.

Both franchises wanted to make Renuka a part of their team, but in the end, Bengaluru made a big bid and included her in their team. She is currently a part of the Indian team in the ongoing Women’s 20-20 World Cup. In the first match played against Pakistan in the tournament, she conceded 24 runs with an economy of 8 in 3 overs and went wicketless while bowling.

Renuka made her debut for Team India in October 2021 against Australia. Since then, she has played a total of 7 ODIs and 28 T20 International matches for Team India. Renuka has more experience in T20Is as she has picked up 24 wickets at an economy rate of 6.45, while in ODIs, she took 18 wickets at an economy rate of 4.62. The 27-year-old has performed brilliantly for Team India in the past as she is able to swing the balls which helps her to take wickets in the powerplay.

Bangalore is looking strong by including star cricketers in their team

Talking about Bangalore, they have included many star cricketers in their team. India’s star opener and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was also sold to Bangalore for 3.4 cr, Australia veteran player Ellyse Perry also joined the team as she was signed for INR 1.7 cr. Bangalore also picked up an experienced captain as New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine joined them for 50 Lakhs. Bangalore’s core is looking strong as of now, they will now look to include some young players as they have already spent a lot of money.

Starting with the auction itself, the Women’s T20 League is expected to bring a huge shift in the landscape of women’s cricket. It marks a tipping point in the legacy of women’s cricket in India. From the sport being available as a hobby to steps being taken towards an increasingly professional setup, the women’s game has come a long way.
