Kandy falcons defeated Jaffna Kings by 10 runs and climbed to the top of the table on Wednesday. Both teams locked horns with each other in the 13th game of the Lanka Premier League at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Both teams had a brilliant start to the tournament by winning their first two matches. Defending champions Jaffna Kings lost their first match to the Falcons and their second loss have, once again, came against the same team. Meanwhile, the Wanindu Hasaranga-led team have lost only one match in the tournament.

Fabian Allen's fiery innings at the end

Talking about the match, the Falcons won the toss and opted to bat first. Opener, Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher gave a good start to the innings as they both put on a quick 35-run partnership for the first wicket. However, Nissanka got out on the 5th over of the innings. The falcons' middle-order couldn’t contribute anything to the scoreboard.

Star all-rounder Fabian Allen came in to bat at no.8 and played a magnificent inning. He scored 47 runs off just 23 balls which includes 3 fours and 4 maximums and helped the team achieve a fighting total of 160 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 161, the Kings started their innings by losing the opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the very first over for only 4 runs. Avishka Fernando and Sadeera Samarawickrama stitched a really good partnership but once they were dismissed, no one from the Kings could make a substantial contribution. Kings, eventually, lost the match by 10 runs.

Falcon's all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite displayed a brilliant performance with the ball as he picked 4 wickets while conceding only 18 runs in his 4-over quota. Skipper Hasaranga also looked brilliant with the ball, picking up 2 wickets in his 4 overs while conceding only 21 runs at an economy rate of 5.20.
