A shocking incident happened during the first match of the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League on Saturday, March 4 at the Dy Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur challenged a wide decision during the second innings against Gujarat.

On the last ball of the 13th over, which was bowled by Saika Ishaque, Gujarat’s Monica Patel tried to play a pull shot but missed it and the umpire called it a wide. However, wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia looked confident that the ball had contact with Monica’s gloves, and the batter herself admitted that the ball hit her gloves.

Harmanpreet took a review and it was confirmed in the ultra edge that the glove was involved and the decision was reversed. It was, earlier, stated that the teams can challenge a wide and waist-high no-ball decision of the umpire. According to the Women’s T20 league rules document, it states that

"Circumstances in which a player review may be requested 3.1.1 A player may request a review of any decision taken by the on-field umpires concerning whether or not a batter is dismissed, with the exception of ‘Timed Out’ (Player Review). A player may also be allowed to review any decision taken by on-field umpires concerning wide or no ball.”
