Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clashed in the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League 2023. In this match, GT batted first and the 23-year-old young batter, Shubman Gill, who came to open for the team, anchored the innings and hit the first century of his IPL career by tearing apart SRH bowlers and became the sixth batter to score a century in the ongoing season.
He also became the first batsman for Gujarat Titans to score a century in IPL. Gill played a brilliant knock of 101 runs in 58 balls. His innings included 13 fours and 1 six. Due to his innings, the team could reach 188 runs. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag heaped praise on Gill in his own style.
“This was probably the biggest chapter. I would rather say that the love story has translated into marriage. It looked like he was batting on a completely different surface. He was scoring those boundaries with such ease but all other batters struggled. We have been talking about Shubman for a long time. This year he scored a hundred in T20Is and Tests, has a double hundred in ODI and now scored a century in IPL as well,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Gill scoring runs consistently
Gill would have scored his maiden century against Lucknow Super Giants earlier this season, but he fell short 6 runs. However, playing for Gujarat, the personal highest score by any batter was 96 runs which was also made by Gill against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2022.
Talking about Shubman Gill's batting in the current IPL season, he has been seen in deadly form till now. He has scored 576 runs in 13 matches played so far at an average of 48 and a mind-blowing strike rate of 146.19. During this, a century and 4 half-centuries have come out of his bat with the highest score of 101. He has hit 62 fours and 14 sixes so far and is now just behind Royal Challengers Bangalore's Faf du Plessis in the Orange Cap race.
