LPL 2022: Kandy Falcons back to winning ways, Colombo Stars beat Galle Gladiators

In the first match, Kandy Falcons beat Dambulla Aura while in the second match Colombo Stars took the revenge of the previous match.

There were two matches played on Tuesday in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. In the first match, Kandy Falcons beat Dambulla Aura while in the second match Colombo Stars took the revenge of previous match defeat from Galle Gladiators and won the match by 2 wickets.

Kandy Falcons are now on top of the table while Jaffna Kings are slipped to the second spot. Gladiators are still on no.3.

Kandy Falcons vs Dambulla Aura

In the first match on Tuesday, Kandy Falcons defeated Dambulla Aura. Falcons opted to bat after winning the toss, openers Pathum Nissanka and Andre Fletcher continued their brilliant form and provided a blazing start to the team. Nissanka scored 26 runs off 20 balls including 3 fours while Fletcher scored 44 runs off 31 deliveries smashing 4 fours and 3 sixes. With the help of Kamindu Mendis's half-century and Ashen Bandara's fiery knock, Falcons put up a monumental total of 193.

In reply, Aura were restricted to only 116 on the board and lost the match by 77 runs. Not a single batter from Aura looked to be able to score. Falcons’ bowlers displayed a brilliant performance with the ball as Carlos Brathwaite and Chamindu Wijesinghe picked up 3 wickets each.

Colombo Stars vs Galle Gladiators

In the second match of the day, Colombo Stars displayed a brilliant performance with the bat as they chased the huge target of 194. Stars won the toss and opted to ball first. However, the bowlers couldn’t stop the Galle Gladiators’ batters as they put up a big total of 193 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 194, opener Dinesh Chandimal wasted little time to get going and notched up a classy fifty off just 25 deliveries. Giving him company was Charith Asalanka and they both ensured that the asking rate was under check, Asalanka played a responsible knock of 46 runs off 38 balls which includes 3 fours and 2 sixes. Ravi Bopara, cool as a cucumber, hit the winning runs. With one run needed off the last ball, the experienced Bopara finished the proceedings calmly with a boundary and Stars won the match by 2 wickets.
