England and Australia are currently clashing against each other in the 1st Test of the Ashes 2023 series at Edgbaston in Birmingham which started on June 16. England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat first and as many fans and cricket experts expected from England to play with their ‘Bazball’ approach, they didn’t upset the fans and smashed 393 runs on the 1st day of the match and declared the innings before the day ended.

Meanwhile, on Day 2, Australian Openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja came to bat and looked pretty confident. However, England’s veteran fast bowler Stuart Broad got one over his old foe, Warner, after getting the crucial breakthrough for England. This is the 15th time Broad got Warner in Test cricket. It was a good length delivery outside off from Broad and Warner threw his hands looking to cut it away, there's just a hint of movement inwards, and it's enough for a thick under-edge to go crashing into the stumps.

Brilliant batting performance by the England team

The left-hander is desperate to end his Test career on a high not having endured a miserable 12 months in the red ball format and revealed before the Ashes that he will walk away from the national Test team come December. However, his Ashes campaign got off to a miserable start as he was dismissed for just nine runs at the hands of Broad, who has long had the edge over the Australian batter.

Talking about England’s batting performance, despite losing wickets at some crucial stages of the innings, they kept hitting the ball out of the park to get quick runs and put the pressure back on the Australian bowlers. Zak Crawley gave a brilliant start to the team and scored 61 runs while former England skipper Joe Root smashed his 30th Test hundred. He was accompanied by Jonny Bairstow who played a 78-run knock of 78 balls and helped the team to achieve a total of 393 runs.
