Former Australian Men’s Cricket Team coach, Justin Langer is in contention to replace Andy Flower as the Head Coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants. According to the reports by Cricbuzz, the former Australian Cricketer is already in discussion with the franchise with several rounds of meetings have already been held.
Notably, Australia won their maiden T20 World Cup under the watch of Langer in 2021. While the former cricketer has also guided Perth Scorchers to the Big Bash League three times in the first four years. The 52-year-old is in consideration by LSG as he is currently not committed to any coaching assignments as of now.
If the negotiations worked out, then Langer will succeed Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower as the Head Coach of LSG in IPL 2024. Notably, Flower’s contract with the franchise ended after the completion of IPL 2023. Under his tenure, Lucknow qualified for the playoffs for consecutive times in 2022 and 2023.
According to the reports, along with Langer, Morne Morkel, Jonty Rhodes, and Vijay Dahiya are expected to continue as bowling, fielding, and assistant coaches respectively. Meanwhile, former Indian Cricketer, Gautam Gambhir is likely to continue as the mentor.
LSG had a decent outing in the recently ended season of the cash-rich league. After losing their regular skipper KL Rahul in the middle of the season due to a hamstring injury, they managed to win eight out of 14 league matches under stand-in skipper KL Rahul and made it into the playoffs. However, they ended up losing against five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator.
Apart from LSG, it is also likely that other teams who didn't perform according to the expectations will be making changes in their coaching staff. However, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to retain Chandrakant Pandit and the coaching staff despite the team finishing in the seventh position in IPL 2023 in the absence of their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer.

KL Rahul should leave that franchisee for good. I don’t see him surviving among 2 pressure cookers in Gambhir & Langer.
