Australia

Australia resumed their first innings from the first day’s score of 255 runs for the loss of four wickets with senior opener Usman Khawaja and young star Cameron Green there in the middle. Both the batters kept dominating the Indian bowling line up with amazing knocks and a brilliant partnership of 208 runs for the fifth wicket.

Later on, as the day’s play progressed, the veteran southpaw Khawaja smashed a brilliant and historic marathon knock of 180 runs off 422 balls with 21 boundaries to his name. Other than him, the young batting star Cameron Green also contributed with a brilliant century of 114 runs off 170 balls with 18 boundaries.

On the back of these brilliant knocks, Australia managed to post a total of 480 runs for the loss of all wickets in 167.2 overs; courtesy of the six-wicket haul by the veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin.

The cricket fans also came up with a lot of interesting reactions after the end of the second day’s play in Ahmedabad. They took to Twitter to come up with praise for the batting of Khawaja followed by the amazing spell of Ravichandran Ashwin.

Here’s how fans reacted:

Speaking of the entire action of the match, Ravichandran Ashwin happened to break the marathon partnership between Khawaja and Green; scalping the latter’s wicket in the 131st over of the Australian innings. Just four balls after Cameron Green’s dismissal, Ashwin claimed the wicket of Alex Carey.

But there came another frustrating phase for the Indian bowlers as the tailenders Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy stitched a crucial partnership of 70 runs for the ninth wicket; Lyon and Murphy scored individual scores of 34 and 41 runs respectively.

Eventually, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who played a crucial role in bundling up Australia on 480 runs by scalping six wickets in the first innings. Notably, Ashwin scalped all the remaining last five wickets of the Australian innings.

At the time of stumps on day 2, India had started their first innings; Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill went unbeaten on the individual scores of 17 and 18 runs respectively. The host had scored 36 runs for no loss in 10 overs.
