Pakistan skipper Babar Azam was left a dejected figure as his side lost their fourth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. South Africa managed to beat Pakistan in a nail-biting encounter in Chennai on Friday to win by 1 wicket.
This latest loss has now put Pakistan on the verge of an early exit from the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. South Africa on the other hand has reached the top of the table pushing India to the number two spot.
Many of the Pakistani fans and players were overcome with emotions at the end of the game. There was anger, disbelief, and sorrow once the winning runs were hit. Keshav Maharaj hit his only boundary of the game which turned out to be the most crucial of the game.
Babar Azam loses his cool at the bowler –
South Africa had lost 9 wickets and needed four runs for a win to go top of the table. Mohammad Nawaz bowled the poorest delivery he could as he pushed the ball down the leg side.
Keshav Maharaj pulled it past the square leg region as the ball raced to the boundary for a four. Once the four was hit, Babar Azam could be seen gesticulating angrily towards the bowler. It was apparent that the Pakistan skipper wasn’t happy with the bowler because he hadn’t bowled as per the field that was set.

Tabraiz Shamsi ran to Keshav Maharaj who was seen thumping his chest in delight. It was a jailbreak scenario for the South Africans. In a bid to keep their aggressive play going the Temba Bavuma-led side had lost wickets at regular intervals.
Aiden Markram was the top scorer with the bat as he hit 91 runs and was looking set for a century. A rush of blood cost Markram his second ton of the ODI World Cup 2023 when he was caught by Babar Azam.
That wicket changed the complexion of the whole game as Pakistan made a comeback. When Haris Rauf got the wicket of Lungi Ngidi the South Africans were still 11 runs away from a win. The hopes were dashed when a questionable LBW call came back to haunt the Pakistani side to condemn them to their fourth loss of the tournament.
