England vs Netherlands in ODI World Cup 2023, is currently been played at the Maharastra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The defending champions did not have a good outing in the tournament. Ben Stokes who made a comeback from his ODI retirement scored a hundred against the Dutch and posted a mammoth total of 339/9. Jos Buttler's side has been knocked out of the tournament and is playing for their place in the 2025 Champions Trophy qualification.
Stokes played a brilliant knock against Scott Edwards's side. Though he gave a chance of a catch when he did not score his half-century, it was dropped by Aryan Dutt. Then the southpaw smashed the bowlers all around the park. Stokes was out in the initial phase of the tournament. But since his return, he has not been performing well, but in an all-important game, he stepped up and scored.
The 32-year-old batter scored his maiden hundred in the ODI World Cup. He scored his hundred off 78 balls. The batter was dismissed in the last over on 108 runs off 84 deliveries, hitting 6 fours and sixes respectively. This run was all-important as the defending champions were struggling at 192/6.
England posts massive total
England won the toss and elected to bat first. Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow started off the innings decently. But the latter was the first one to dismiss. Baistow's poor form continued as he was back after scoring 15 runs. Malan and Joe Root then built a partnership of 85 runs. The former scored a half-century. The opener scored 87 runs but was unfortunately run out.
Stokes then took his time and built an innings with Chris Woakes when they were 192/6. They stitched a 129-run partnership and at the end both the batters fired the latter also scored 51 runs. The three Lions have posted a big total of 340 runs.
Now the English bowling attack has to defend this score to secure their second win of the tournament.
