Glenn Maxwell scores a century

Afghanistan vs Australia in ODI World Cup 2023, is going on at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. In the first innings, Ibrahim Zadran became the first Afghan batter to score a hundred in the tournament. Glenn Maxwell also scored his second hundred in the tournament while chasing a target of 292 runs. Maxwell previously has the record of scoring the fastest hundred in the tournament's history. He scored a hundred in 40 balls against the Netherlands. 

The Afghans dropped the catch of Maxwell while he was batting on, 34 runs Mujeeb ur Rahman dropped the catch of the batter. The batter scored 201*. Batting first openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Zadran gave the Afghans a good start. The former was dismissed playing a loose shot off Josh Hazelwood's ball. Zadran was unbeaten till the end of the innings and a cameo of 35 runs. 

Afghanistan have played well in the World Cup so far they have won four games and would love to win it against the Aussies as well. The five-time champions have been fighting with still three wickets, left. 

Maxwell fires in Wankhede

Glenn Maxwell who missed the last game against England, came back to the side and played an important innings for Australia as the five-time world champions were struggling when he came into the crease when they were 49/4. Australia are close to winning the game for them. 

In the first innings, Zadran batted brilliantly as he built the partnership and etched his name in the record books. The 21-year-old batter was unbeaten with 129 runs off 143 deliveries, hitting eight fours and three sixes. In the final ten overs, he and Rashid Khan scored 96 runs. In the final over of the innings, he scored 35 runs off 18 balls and hit Starc for 16 runs.

In response, Australia kept on losing wickets at regular intervals but Maxwell has been there in the crease fighting along with skipper Pat Cummins who has given him the best support.
