Glenn Maxwell out-scored everyone as the batter scored a brilliant double century for the Aussies when his team was struggling at one stage and got valuable support from skipper Pat Cummins.

Australia beat Afghanistan by seven wickets in ODI World Cup 2023, at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first, Australia made two changes to the side with Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh coming in place of Steve Smith and Cameron Green. The openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave them a good start. But the former was dismissed on 21 runs. 

Zadran scored a hundred and etched his name in the history books as the opener became the first batter to score a hundred for the Afghans in the marquee tournament. He built the innings and fired towards the end alongside Rashid Khan. Rahmat Shah gave support to the 21-year-old batter. They played slow in between, but in the end, Rashid and Zadran scored 96 runs.

Ibrahim Zadran was the hero for the Afghans, as he played a brilliant knock of 129 runs off 143 deliveries. The 21-year-old batter was unbeaten till the end and built small partnerships with Rahmat Shah, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Mohammad Nabi. But in the end, Rashid's 35 runs off 18 balls cameo led Afghan post a target of 291/5 in 50-over. 

In response, Australia did not get the start they wanted, they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. They were struggling at 91/7 at one stage, with Maxwell and Cummins at the crease. Both the batters played brilliantly with Maxwell scoring the first double-hundred in a chasing cause and becoming the first Australian batter to do so. He cramped while playing and standing out in front of the Afghan bowling attack and finished the match, he was unbeaten on 201 runs off 128 balls, hitting 21 fours and 10 sixes. With Cummins who stayed with him on 12 runs of 68 balls.
