India beat England by 100 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. This is their sixth win in the tournament with their unbeaten record still intact in the mega tournament. England will stay at the last place in the points table in the tournament the defending champions did not play like their reputation in the tournament so far and this is their fifth loss in the tournament. England won the toss and elected to field first in a tricky wicket of Lucknow. Both sides were unchanged. This was Rohit Sharma's 100th international match as a skipper. 

The Men in Blue got off to a decent start with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill scoring quick runs. But after Gill returned to the pavilion Chris Woakes and David Willey created the pressure and resulted in the wicket of Virat Kohli who departed without scoring. Skipper Rohit was the only batter who scored a half-century on a difficult wicket in Lucknow. 

This is the first time India won a match batting first. The fiery bowling performances from Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah did not let the batters settle in the wicket. England are out of the semi-final race contention after their loss against the two-time World Champions. 

Sensational bowling display by Indian bowlers

Gill and Rohit were off to a good start. The former went back into the pavilion after scoring 9 runs off 13 deliveries. The latter scored 87 runs on 101 balls. The former India skipper was out for a duck off 9 balls. After Shreyas Iyer's wicket, India was struggling at 40/3. Then KL Rahul and the Indian skipper built a partnership of 90 runs and the wicket-keeper was back in the pavilion scoring a decent 39 runs. Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant knock of 49 runs and made sure India are through 200 runs. They scored 229/9. 

In reply, England openers Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow scored 30 runs before the former was dismissed by Bumrah, on the very next ball Joe Root was back in the pavilion without scoring. Shami's sensational first spell did not let the batter settle at all and wickets kept on falling at regular intervals Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja picked three wickets between them. They were bowled out for 129 runs.
