Mohammed Shami.

The Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was on fire against New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023. In his comeback match in the World Cup, Shami claimed a 5-wicket haul and returned in a grand style. It was Shami's day through and through. He was simply fantastic with the ball in all the phases of the game, particularly in the death, Shami showed his masterclass.

With the new ball, the duo of Siraj and Bumrah opened the bowling. Shami was brought in as a replacement for Shardul Thakur. It was better than the best replacement as Shami claimed 5 wickets in his 10 overs. The right-arm pacer claimed the wickets of 4 genuine batters, all of whom could have threatened the Indian team with their batting. In fact, a couple of them did have their day.

Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell were very good with the bat. Shami bowled well against them too. Had Jadeja grabbed the catch of Rachin, Shami could have had his sixth wicket of the match. Regardless, Shami had his moments in the match. In the powerplay overs, Shami got the wicket of Will Young, on the very first ball of his spell.

Brilliant execution of Yorkers in deathovers

In the middle overs, Shami was effective again. He came back for his second spell and broke the partnership between Ravindra and Mitchell, which was flourishing well. Shami got the wicket of Ravindra. Later in the death overs, Shami controlled runs and picked wickets as well. He nailed the yorkers for fun and made life difficult for the batters of New Zealand.

Shami bowled an inch-perfect yorker to dismiss Mark Chapman, which was a highlight of his spell. In the very next ball, Shami claimed the wicket of Matt Henry. Even the hat-trick ball was on the money. But Ferguson managed to defend it. In the process, Shami claimed a 5-wicket haul and troubled New Zealand. The Indian pacer was fantastic and showed what could do in the team as a pure bowler.
