The Netherlands shocks South Africa as they beat the Proteas by 43 runs, at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala. Batting first they posted a total of 245/8 in a 43-over reduced match. Skipper Scott Edwards was brilliant at the end of the innings after they were struggling at one stage with 141 for 7 in 34 overs and then scoring more than 100 runs in the last 15 overs.

Openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd did not give the start for the Men in Orange as they lost them early. Wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. The South African bowlers did not let the batters settle in the crease with skipper Edwards being the highest scorer as he scored a fifty and got some help from the lower-order batters that helped them post a defendable score.

Marco Jensen was the pick of the bowlers as he picked two wickets and was economical in his spell as well. Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada also picked two wickets each but they let some runs leak towards the end of the innings. During their chase, South Africa found it difficult to chase the target as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Netherlands create history

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to field first. His decision of fielding first went right as the Netherlands openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd went back early on in the innings they were 24/2. From there wickets fell at regular intervals. Skipper Scott Edwards scored a sensational fifty when his team was struggling at 141/7. He was unbeaten till the end with 78 runs off 69 balls. Small cameos from Roelof van der Merwe and Aryan Dutt at the end made sure they posted a defendable target of 246. Dutt scored 23 off 9 deliveries. Marco Jensen was the pick of the bowlers as he was the most economical and picked two wickets.

In response, after opener Quinton de Kock and skipper Bavuma gave them a decent start. But as soon as both the batters the middle order of South Africa shattered and crumbled, no batter was able to score runs. Henrich Klassen scored 28 runs before being dismissed by Logan van Beek. David Miller was the highest run scorer for them with 43 runs. As soon as Miller was back to the dugout the lower order gave some fight but was unable to take their team through. This is the first time they beat Proteas in the World Cup.
