India had lost only one match in the tournament till the semifinal. Many argued that India was the favourite to win the match against New Zealand. After the first half, many felt that India was just a step closer to entering the final. But India lost the match in a closely fought battle. The fact that India came so close to winning and yet lost it did not go well with the fans.

To date, many remember the day as one of the saddest days for Indian cricket. Many remember the face of MS Dhoni after he was dismissed by Martin Guptill in a freak runout. Many fans cried after the match. Bangar, who was in the commentary box in the match between India and New Zealand in the ODI World Cup 2023 match, remembered the Indian dressing room.

'MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya couldn't stop their tears' - Sanjay Bangar

Bangar claimed that the Indian dressing room was not in a good mood after the loss against New Zealand. The former Indian batting coach said that everyone in the dressing room cried, following the loss against New Zealand. Bangar said that the likes of MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and others could not stop their tears after the loss.

"Players including MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya couldn't stop their tears and cried bitterly in the dressing room after losing the 2019 World Cup Semis," said Bangar in the commentary box.
