Shubman Gill is one of the most exciting batters in modern-day cricket in recent times. The 24-year-old on Sunday became the fastest batter to reach the 2000 run mark in ODI cricket. Gill, achieved this feat against New Zealand in Dharamshala going past the great Hashim Amla.

After missing the first two games of the ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, Shubman Gill was back against Pakistan. It was a crucial game for the Indian team against New Zealand in Dharamshala on Sunday.

The Indian team was tasked with chasing 274 runs to win and keep their unbeaten run alive. While Shubman Gill only scored 26 runs he showed glimpses of his form in ODI Cricket this year during his short stay.

Coming into the game, Shubman Gill needed 14 runs to score 2,000 runs in ODI Cricket. The 24-year-old got to the mark when Shubman Gill drove Trent Boult for a four. The 2000 run mark was achieved in a mere 38 innings two better than Hashim Amla.

The young Indian batter couldn’t capitalize on his good start to the innings as he was out for 26 runs. Lockie Ferguson bowled a full and short ball outside the off-stump as Gill tried to uppercut it. Daryl Mitchell stationed at the third-man boundary took an easy catch.

Speaking about Gill, the 24-year-old had missed the games against Australia and Afghanistan due to dengue. Once he got fit, Gill came back for the big game against Pakistan in Ahmedabad and scored 16 runs.

In the next game versus Bangladesh in Pune, the youngster scored his first fifty in ODI World Cup 2023. This year Shubman Gill has scored 1325 runs in ODI cricket with 6 half-centuries and five centuries.

His best of 208 came earlier this year versus New Zealand during the ODI Series at home. He followed it up with yet another century in Indore before a few more centuries against Sri Lanka. With four more league phase matches left and possibly two more games in the knock-out phase, Shubman Gill may be on his way to breaking more records.
