South Africa defeated New Zealand by 190 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Maharastra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The Proteas are currently at the top of the table after their win against the Kiwis. Batting first they kept their scoring momentum going again scoring over 350 runs at the tournament. They made just one change for the side with Kagiso Rabada coming in place of Tabriz Shamsi.
Quinton de Kock scored his 4th century in the event. He has been in sensational form in the ongoing event, having scored the tying most hundreds in a single edition with former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara. Rassie van der Dussen also scored a century his sixth overall and second in the tournament. Both the batters stitched a partnership of 200 runs between them. They smacked the bowlers all around the park in a batting-friendly pitch in Pune.
The Kiwis have made the semi-final route tough after losing three consecutive matches in a row. Trent Boult was the only pick of the bowlers for the Black Caps. A mid-inning injury of Matt Henry has given concern to the Kiwi management. Already two of their star players Kane Williamson and Lockie Ferguson out with injuries.
Rassie van der Dussen and de Kock scores big
Tom Latham won the toss and elected to field first. de Kock and Temba Bavuma started off well but the latter was dismissed by Boult. Then the partnership of van der Dussen and de Kock helped the proteas post a mammoth total of 357/4 in their 50-overs. The former scored 133 runs off 118 deliveries and the wicket-keeper scored 114 runs off 116 balls.
In response, the Kiwis were not in the game as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Glenn Phillips was the highest run scorer for his side the batter scored 60 runs. No other batters looked to score runs. Keshav Maharaj picked up four wickets. Marco Jansen took three and Gerald Coetzee took two wickets respectively.
