Rohit Sharma’s 131 runs helped India gain an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in their ODI World Cup 2023 clash on Wednesday in New Delhi. This was India’s second win in the marquee tournament. The Men in Blue had begun the tournament with a six-wicket win over Australia in Chennai on Sunday.

Rohit lost the toss yet again as Afghanistan chose to make use of the wickets first. There was no change to the playing XI for the Afghanistan team, while India made one change. Ravichandran Ashwin was benched for the game as he was replaced by Shardul Thakur.

The fans were also waiting for the Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq battle. The two players though buried the hatchet in front of a crazy New Delhi crowd. India will next play Pakistan in their third game of the ODI World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma’s ton helps India make short work of Afghanistan –

India were asked to chase down 273 on a flat New Delhi Pitch with an electric outfield. The Indian team seemed to break no sweat when they won the game with 15 overs to spare.

Rohit Sharma was the star of the show as he scored 131 runs from just 84 balls with 16 fours and 5 sixes. The Indian skipper scored the fastest World Cup century by an Indian in just 63 deliveries. It was a day to remember for Rohit Sharma as he became the fastest India and joint fastest to reach 1000 runs in World Cups. When he hit his fourth six of the innings, Rohit became the leading six-hitting in international cricket going past Chris Gayle.

Ishan Kishan scored 47 runs off 47 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes and added 156 runs for the 1st wicket. Rashid Khan then got both the Indian openers as India were placed at 205/2 when Rohit Sharma fell. Virat Kohli saw the team home with an unbeaten 55-run knock along with Shreyas Iyer who was on 25.

Hasmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah added 121 runs for the 4th wicket to bring Afghanistan back into the game. The pair scored fifties each as they went after the Indian bowling. The two batters took special liking to the Indian spinners hitting both Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja for sixes.
