New Zealand were put into bat by Rohit Sharma after winning the toss. The Indian team made two expected changes with Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav coming into the team. Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya were benched to make way for the duo.

The Kiwis ended their innings by posting a healthy-looking 273 runs in their 50 overs. Mohammed Shami was the star with the ball as he picked 5/54 from his 10 overs. Daryl Mitchell was the main batter for New Zealand as he scored his 5th ODI ton on Sunday

Mohammad Siraj gave the Indian team a great start by getting rid of Devon Conway for a duck caught by Shreyas Iyer. Mohammed Shami then celebrated his comeback to the team with the wicket of Will Young for 17 with his first ball of the game.

Rachin Ravindra combined forces with Daryl Mitchell to add 159 crucial runs for the third wicket. The partnership came at a healthy rate of over 6 runs per over. That partnership was broken by Mohammed Shami who had Rachin Ravindra caught by Shubman Gill for 75.

Daryl Mitchell kept going as he continued to attack the Indian bowlers. The 32-year-old Kiwi continued to bat with the aggressive mindset he displayed right from the start. Mitchell finally got his reward when he took a single to score his 5th ODI century.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added 71 runs for the first wicket in just 11.1 overs. Lockie Ferguson got rid of both the openers first removing Rohit Sharma for 46 and Gill for 26.

Virat Kohli was steadfast on one end as he saw the wickets fall at regular intervals on the other hand. Shreyas Iyer was caught by Conway off Boult for 33, while KL Rahul was out LBW for 27. Suryakumar Yadav was run out for 2, but Virat Kohli led the batting charts. The former Indian skipper fell to Matt Henry when looking to get to his ton in style. Jadeja hit the winning runs as he was not out on 39 and finished the game with a four.
