Suryakumar Yadav endured bad luck after he was run out for just two runs on Sunday. The 33-year-old was playing his first game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. The Indian had decided to give Yadav the chance in place of the injured Hardik Pandya.

Dharamshala was the venue as India and New Zealand played match number 21 of the ODI World Cup 2023. Both the teams had played four and won four coming into this crucial encounter on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first to make use of the conditions while chasing. New Zealand were all out for 273 in the 50th over thanks to Daryl Mitchell’s 130-run knock.

Suryakumar Yadav sacrifices his wicket for Virat Kohli –

With India needing 82 runs for a win and 6 wickets in hand, Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli were in the middle. Trent Boult came round the wicket and bowled a full ball to Yadav who drove to the off side and went looking for a quick single.

Mitchell Santner dove to his left and threw the ball to Boult as SKY had already made his way to the bowler's end. Boult got hold of the ball and threw it to Tom Latham who broke the stumps to run out Yadav for 2.

It was a sad end to Yadav’s innings who was making his World Cup debut for India on Sunday. At the time Yadav fell the Indian needed 82 runs more to win with just Ravindra Jadeja the last specialist batter left.

Rohit Sharma began well as he scored yet another brisk forty this time falling for 46. The Indian skipper was bowled by Lockie Ferguson to give the Kiwis the first wicket. Shubman Gill was the next to go when he was out for 26 caught by Mitchell of Ferguson.

Daryl Mitchell wasn’t done for the day when he took an amazing catch to dismiss Shreyas Iyer for 33. Mitchell Santner then got the big wicket of KL Rahul for 27 runs off 25 balls to bring the Kiwis back into the game. The umpire had given it not out initially but the Kiwis sent it upstairs and the third umpire reversed the decision.
