The match between Australia and South Africa proved to be a low-scoring thriller. For a spot in the final of the tournament, the two sides took on each other at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. On a tricky wicket in Kolkata, both sides struggled with the bat and became responsible for a close match. The pitch had some assistance for both the pacers and the spinners.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. The overcast conditions meant that the Australian pacers ran riot on the Australian batting lineup. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were on fire with their swing and seam bowling respectively. As a result, South Africa was reduced to 24/4 after 11.5 overs. From there, South Africa had a tough game to go. The onus was on David Miller to take them to a good total.

And boy did Miller take South Africa to a safe total! On a turning wicket, Miller scored heavily against the main spinner of Australia, Adam Zampa. Miller got some support from the other end in the form of Heinrich Klaasen. As a result, South Africa posted a total of 212 runs on the board. Miller scored a fabulous hundred and helped his side to get to a total, which was good to be defended.

Low low-scoring thriller entertains the crowd

Chasing 213, Australia went bonkers at the top. David Warner and Travis Head raced away to 60 runs in the first 6 overs. From there, South Africa pulled back the things. The proteas chipped in with wickets constantly to make the match a lot closer. From 60/0 at one stage, Australia collapsed to 193/7 at one point. There was so much drama in the match.

There were so many close calls. There were so many close chances. Some of the catches were dropped. Some of them were caught brilliantly. Towards the end, the Australian lower-order batters ensured that they saw their team home. As a result, Australia qualified for the final and knocked South Africa out of the tournament.
