The ODI World Cup 2023 is already one of the best tournaments for a while. Since its start on the 5th of October, each of the games has been action-packed and filled with drama. India has always been known as a haven for run scoring and the current ODI World Cup has not dispelled that notion.

ODI World Cup 2023 witnessed 45 league games and one semi-final being played. Most of the games have seen huge runs being put and scored. Teams like India, Australia, and South Africa have made full use of the powerplay overs.

The normally free-scoring South Africans were stifled with the bat during the 2nd Semi-finals of the ODI World Cup on Thursday.

Five lowest Powerplay scores in ODI World Cup 2023

5. Afghanistan 28/2 versus New Zealand, 16th Match Chennai

New Zealand batted first and scored 288/6 from their 50 overs. The score was possible thanks to a trio of half-centuries by Will Young, Tom Latham, and Glenn Phillips. Chasing 289 to win the Afghanistan openers added 27 runs for the 1st wicket. Trent Boult and Matt Henry dislodged both the openers as the Afghans crawled to 28/2 in the first ten overs. This was the fifth-lowest powerplay score during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

4. India 27/3 versus Australia, 5th Match Chennai

Defending just 200 on the board, the Australian shocked the home crowd by reducing India to 2/3 in the 2nd over. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas Iyer were out for ducks. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul then began the repair job as India ended the 1st powerplay at 27/3. This was 4th lowest powerplay score in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament.

3. Netherlands 23/2 versus England, 40th Match Pune

Chasing 340 to win, the Dutch side had already lost the wickets of Max O Dowd and Colin Ackermann by the 6th over. England bowlers restricted the Netherlands to the 3rd lowest powerplay score in the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament at 23/2. England went on to win the game by 160 runs to notch their 2nd win of the campaign.

2. South Africa 18/2 versus Australia,  2nd Semi-Final Kolkata

Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bat first as the Eden Gardens witnessed cloudy weather and vintage Australian bowling. South Africa recorded the 2nd lowest power-play score during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament. At the ten-over mark, South Africa was 18/2 having lost Temba Bavuma for a duck and Quinton De Kock for 3.

Sri Lanka 14/6 versus India, 33rd Game Mumbai

The lowest powerplay score during the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament belongs to the Sri Lankan side. The former World Cup winners had lost their first six wickets to the three Indian pacers within 9.4 overs. Mohammed Shami picked 5/18 to destroy the Lankan batting unit as they were bowled out for just 55 runs to lose by 302 runs.
